| I honestly don't remember how this piece came about. I think it was inspired by my discovery of some of those beautiful old tunes from the 30's. I've played this in front of hundreds of people, and often get suggestions or offers to write the lyrics. Part of the magic of this song is that it is open for ANYONE to contribute whatever words or concepts they create. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

This song was written during an Illinois summer heat wave. I recall it was so hot that I had an ear infection from the sweat dripping in my ears (Probably more than you wanted to know, I'm sure)! It is in the genre of "The Girl from Ipanema," and has the smooth jazz feel and a Roger Williams kind of sound. |

This is one of the few pieces I ever wrote that virtually "wrote itself." Coming home one evening I sat down at my keyboard and the first thing out of my fingers was this odd little run. I looked at my wife, and we both said "keep that one!" The rest followed with no effort and was one of the most enjoyable creations I ever did. Oddly enough, working out the fingerings for this piece resolved a pianistic problem I had had for years! Spooky! |

| This is from a set of poems by the Wisconsin author, August Derleth. I have six songs set to music, entitled Sac Prairie People. This one is about a young man on a hot summer day. Musically it is inspired by the songs of Debussey and Ravel, two of my favorite composers. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
